One of our favorite U.S. destinations to visit this time of year is the small, seaside city of Santa Barbara (home of our Hotel Milo). Here are ten reasons for you to check it out:
Santa Barbara, and Hotel Milo, are located right on the water, which lets travelers enjoy the best seaside activities like sunset sailing and enjoying the sandy beach. The beautiful Channel Islands are just offshore, and have great kayaking.
The Santa Ynez Mountains loom just north of the city. There are a number of exciting hikes from an easy jaunt up to the scenic Inspiration Point with views of the city and ocean to various hot spring destinations.
Right around the corner from our Hotel Milo, State Street is Santa Barbara’s central stretch of entertainment, shops and restaurants. Whether you want to see a play, have a seafood dinner, or hit a brewery, you can do it on State.
Surrounded by wine country, Santa Barbara is one of the best places to go for oenophiles. Take a day trip and explore some of the local vineyards by horseback, or attend tastings at the town’s multiple micro-wineries for an up close look at California’s winemaking scene.
Home to many bars and wineries, Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone neighborhood is also revered for its many galleries and art walks. There’s a weekly arts and crafts fair on Sundays on Cabrillo Boulevard, right in front of Hotel Milo.
Santa Barbara Bowl
Lofted up on a hill overlooking the city and the ocean, the Santa Barbara Bowl is among the most breathtaking concert venues in the country. This year, it will welcome big name acts like Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt and Weezer.
Santa Barbara is the epitome of SoCal beauty, and the weather plays a huge role. Average days are sunny and tend to stay between the 70s and 90s. Leave the sweater at home, and be sure to bring a bathing suit!
It’s On the Way
Located off the 101, and a stop on Amtrak’s Surfliner train, Santa Barbara is convenient for anyone traveling between San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
From seafood to New American and vegetarian, Santa Barbara is on point with its culinary offerings. Some of our favorite stop offs include Sambo’s diner, just steps from Milo’s front door, and Toma, an Italian seafood haven.
Located just across the way from Hotel Milo, Stearns Wharf is a classic beach town pier that we love for its visual charm and friendly businesses. Head out for stellar views of the ocean and town, and linger with a glass of wine or an ice cream cone.
