Every summer, the Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest takes over Penn’s Landing on the Delaware River. From June to September, head to this hangout for free roller skating and enjoy food from the locally-beloved Garces Group at the pop-up Boathouse in between skates and trips to the video arcade.
Philadelphia has a number of exceptional parks, where travelers and locals alike enjoy sunny days. Take the kids to play on the ropes course a the Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill, or visit the massive Smith Memorial Playground just west of Brewerytown. Smaller, urban parks near The Independent Hotel in Philadelphia like Rittenhouse Square and Serger Park offer grassy respites to watch the stately city surrounding.
Check out new exhibitions at the revered Barnes Foundation like Nari Ward: Sun Splashed—a look at the found-object art of this controversial Jamaican artist. Supporting the Phillies baseball team is a local necessity in Philadelphia, and summer months bring hometown games to the gorgeous Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia.
