As summer turns to fall, certain NYC attractions like sunset boat cruises and rooftop bars are beginning to lose their appeal. Luckily for all travelers, the island of Manhattan has countless things to do all year round.
Enjoy the city’s many museums
From the Metropolitan Museum of Art to MoMa, The New Whitney and The Natural History Museum, Manhattan is flush with world-class cultural institutions. In the summer, enjoy outdoor attractions like the Met’s rooftop bar, and in colder months, peruse endless collections and exhibits.
Take in a show
Manhattan’s entertainment scene never sleeps, much like the city itself. One can always take a look at the best shows on Broadway right now, or have a gander at what’s going on at the Lincoln Center or one of the city’s many elite comedy clubs like the Gotham Comedy Club and Caroline’s on Broadway.
Find outdoor gatherings
Summer is filled with outdoor gatherings like The Jazz Age Lawn Party and Central Park SummerStage festival. Winter travelers can indulge as well with cold-weather traditions like the Union Square Winter Market, and Bryant Park Winter Village.
New York City is among the most respected and eclectic culinary destinations in the world. Guests of IC’s Duane Street Hotel can sample treats from around the world by strolling to nearby Chinatown and Nolita neighborhoods. Hit the East Village for New American creations, and check out Brooklyn for some classic NYC pizza.
Shopping knows no schedule, and can even become more fun in the winter with the famous holiday window displays on Fifth Avenue. Add in the aforementioned winter markets, rolling pop-ups like Brooklyn Flea, and shopping-inclined travelers have plenty to choose from regardless of when they visit.
Ride the subway
While it’s not the most luxurious way to travel, the New York City subway is a direct line into the pulse of the city. Take a minute to stand on a muggy platform in the summer, or to pack onto a parka-filled train in the winter and get a taste for life as a local.
Catch a game
We are embarking on a beautiful time to be a sports fan in New York City. The Yankees and the Mets have playoff potential, while the Jets and Giants are kicking off their NFL seasons. The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets seasons are also fast approaching.
