On Saturday, July 12, 2025, downtown Frederick, Maryland, transforms into a historic racing arena for the National Clustered Spires High Wheel Race. This unique event features cyclists from around the globe competing on antique and replica high wheel bicycles—also known as penny farthings—along a 0.4-mile loop through the city's charming streets.
The race begins at 12:00 PM, starting and finishing in front of Brewer's Alley on North Market Street. Riders participate in two 20-minute qualifying heats, with top performers advancing to a 30-minute championship race to vie for the national title. Spectators can also enjoy intermission events like the Low Wheel Race and the Slow Race, adding to the day's festivities.
